Stadium (Portugal)
Country: Portugal
Project: iBwave RF Design & Planning
Location: Stadium (Portugal)
Stadium Capacity: 60,000
Project Scope
- End-to-end iBwave RF design for a large-capacity stadium environment
- Passive DAS design (SISO) for back-of-house (BOH) areas
- 2×2 MIMO design for critical BOH zones requiring higher capacity
- 4×4 MIMO design for spectator benches and playing ground to support high user density
- Network designed to fully support 4G and 5G services
- Common infrastructure solution planned for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs)
Key Activities
- Accurate 3D stadium modeling including seating areas, ground, and BOH spaces
- Hybrid DAS unit configuration aligned with coverage and capacity requirements
- Antenna planning, placement, and connectivity design based on area usage
- RF optimization to ensure uniform coverage and capacity performance
- KPI validation and achievement as per MNO benchmarks
- Design review and final approval from participating MNOs
Achievements
- Delivered high-capacity 4×4 MIMO coverage across benches and ground to support peak traffic during events
- Optimized SISO and 2×2 MIMO deployment in BOH areas, balancing performance and cost
- Achieved target KPIs for coverage, throughput, and user experience under high-density scenarios
- Enabled single common DAS infrastructure for all MNOs, reducing duplication and operational complexity
- Designed a robust and scalable RF solution capable of handling large crowd variations during events
- Successfully obtained design approvals from all MNOs within planned timelines
